Somerset County, New Jersey

Historic downtowns, Revolutionary War landmarks, Raritan River parks and NJ Transit rail service in Central New Jersey.

Somerset County sits in Central New Jersey, where the North and South Branches of the Raritan River meet to form the Raritan. Somerville, the county seat, keeps its white marble 1909 courthouse at the center of a walkable downtown, and Washington’s army spent the winter of 1778 to 1779 at Middlebrook nearby. NJ Transit’s Raritan Valley Line and Gladstone Branch, I-78, I-287, US 22, US 202 and US 206 link the county to the rest of the region.
